School Librarian – help build the school library of the future in Älvkarleby Municipality

Do you want to be part of developing a modern and inspiring school library service? We are now looking for an engaged School Librarian who wants to contribute to strengthening students' love of reading, information competence, and learning in Älvkarleby Municipality.

Älvkarleby Municipality has three municipal primary schools: Rotskärsskolan (Grades F–9), Sörgärdets skola (Grades F–6), and Bodaskolan (Grades F–6).

As a School Librarian, you are organizationally placed within the Culture and Leisure Administration and are part of the public library's work team. At the same time, you work on behalf of the schools and will be active in the municipality's various schools. The role therefore requires a flexible working style and a good ability to collaborate across operational boundaries.

Here, you will have an important role in shaping and developing the school library services. You will work closely with school leadership, teachers, and students to create libraries that function as living and inclusive learning environments that contribute to students' knowledge development.

Responsibilities

With the public library as a base, you plan, drive, and develop the school library service in close collaboration with the primary schools and the public library. During the construction phase, you are part of the library's work team while having a special focus on the development of the school libraries.

In this role, you will:

• Establish and develop the school library service in the municipality.
• Stimulate children's and young people's love of reading and interest in literature.
• Support students' reading development, information seeking, and critical source evaluation skills.
• Collaborate with teachers and integrate the school library into the teaching.
• Develop the libraries' digital resources and work with the library catalog.
• Counsel students on information seeking, digital competence, and the use of AI.
• Plan and carry out activities that strengthen the library's role in students' learning.

You are a person who enjoys meeting children and young people, inspiring reading, and creating engagement around literature and knowledge. You have the ability to explain complex issues such as source criticism, information management, and digital tools in a pedagogical and accessible way.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have:

• A degree in Library and Information Science or other education that the employer considers equivalent.
• Experience working with children and young people is meritorious.
• Good digital competence and an interest in using and developing digital tools.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and drive development work.
• Good collaboration skills and a professional approach.
• A strong interest in reading promotion, literature, and knowledge organization.
